5 Gateway Books to my Favourite Genre

I love a lot of genres, but I have to say that my favourite is fantasy. So here are 5 essential fantasy novels if you want to start reading the genre. (or you already read it!)

  1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
I know this one is soo obvious, but it’s just too amazing not to add. I’m rereading Harry Potter for the third time at the moment, and it’s just as fantastic as I remember. A must.
  2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I find Maas’ books really easy to get into, and the language she uses isn’t too foreign and difficult if you’re not used to reading. Perfect for people who don’t read too often.
  3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
You can’t go wrong with a novel by Uncle Rick!! They’re easy to get into, interesting plots and well-written characters, what could possibly go wrong?
  4. Magisterium by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
This series has similarities with Harry Potter, though is perhaps aimed at a younger age group. (though I still love it). If you love Harry Potter, you will love this. Maybe.
  5. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
This trilogy is amazing. A prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, it can be read without TMI, and I personally enjoyed this so much more. Sexy Shadowhunters (demon-hunters), vampires with vampire-mojo, demons (bleh), werewolves, and glittery warlocks, what more could you possibly want?

There are my 5 recommended gateway books to fantasy! What’s your favourite genre? What 5 gateway books would you recommend? Let me know in the comments, or link me to your post!

What books are you currently reading?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

What is the last book that you finished?

Favourite book you read this year? (I’m not including re-reads)

What genre have you read most of this year?

Fantasy, most definitely. I do enjoy other genres, but you can never bet a good YA fantasy.

What genre have you read least this year?

I’m assuming this means of all the genres that I read. If this is the case, it’s probably a tie between contemporary and science fiction. I’ve been neglecting both of them, because there’s just so much fantasy!

What genre do you want to read more of?

Umm… I read what I like, and I don’t really like anything else.
I do own a couple of historical fiction books though, a genre I’ve never read before, and I look forward to reading them.

How many books have you read this year, and what’s your goal?

So far this year, I’ve managed to read 56 books so far this year, but my goal is 90, so I’m woefully behind. I actually get the most reading done in the Christmas holidays though, so I still have plenty of time to reach my goal. (:

What’s the last book you bought?

What book are you saving up to buy next?

Just one??! There’ll never be just one, but I’ll list a few.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
The Juliette Chronicles by Tahereh Mafi
Shades of London series by Maureen Johnson
A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Alienated series by Melissa Landers

Last time you went to the library, how many books did you check out?

I don’t remember the last time I was at the library, but I probably borrowed around five books.

What’s a book you can’t wait to read?

Sooo many!! A few:

What’s a series you’d recommend to everyone?

Who’s an author you’re hoping writes more?

I’d say Rick Riordan, or Marissa Meyer, but I don’t need to hope, because they actually are writing more. I hope we get more from J.K. Rowling, Alexandra Bracken and Marie Lu.

A few books your heart adores?

Basically every book on this post. (excluding the ones that I haven’t read before).

What series’ coming conclusion makes you sad?

The Young Elites!!! Though I can’t wait for The Midnight Star, I’ll be sad to see the trilogy completed. But other than that, pretty much every series I adore has already finished.

What books are on your wish list?

I’d like to think that every book I’ve put onto my Goodreads page that I’ve yet to own is my wish-list. Which is over a thousand books. (I may be waiting a while for all of them XD)

5 Characters That I Wouldn’t Want To Be

Hey guys! I know I haven’t been posting much, but I’m just a bit busy at the moment.

So here’s another Top 5 Wednesday!!

  1. Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
I don’t want to be Snape, because no matter how much I love him, his life sucked. He finally had a best friend, (whom he has a crush on), and she dates the guy that bullies him, with help from his friends. And then we got all dat Voldemort shiz too.
  2. Voldemort (Harry Potter)
Okay, nobody hit me, but I actually feel sorry for Voldemort. It’s not his fault his mum tricked his dad, and he was conceived under the effects of a love potion so he’s incapable of love. Then again, he didn’t have to become a murdering lying psychopath either, but hey, we all make mistakes.
  3. Levana (The Lunar Chronicles)
Yet again, please don’t hit me, but I feel sorry for Levana as well, after reading Fairest. Channary was horrible to her. (And she name her daughter after basically every female in her family except for Levana: Selene Channary Jannali Blackthorn). Though, yet again, she’s still an evil conniving lunatic.
  4.  Valerie (Red Riding Hood)
(Spoilers!!) Her boyfriend may have possibly attacked her mother, and killed her grandmother in a forest, and then waited for her to come along, ask her to run away with him, and have her leave her grandmother’s body undiscovered. Enough said.
  5. Raina (Agents of Shield)
I know this post is meant to be for books, but I love Raina, and Agents of Shield, so here we are. As I said, I love Raina, but I definitely wouldn’t want to be her. Her childhood sucked, she worked for a few evil freaks, turned into a ‘gnarled freak of nature’, saved a few lives, and was then murdered by Skye’s weird creepy mum. As much as I love her, I’d really rather not be her.

Also, if you guys watch Agents of Shield and Once Upon A Time, it’d mean a lot to me if you could check out my fanfic ‘An Inhuman Saviour’ on fanfiction.net. I haven’t updated in over a month, (I know! I’m a horrible human being!) but my school holidays are in two days, so I’ll be updating a few times throughout those two weeks away from school. (My fanfiction.net is linked on the About page).

And Agents of Shield started again today!!! I haven’t had a chance to watch the episode yet, but I’m really looking forward to it!!

Also, I wasn’t on two days ago, but… happy belated 37th Hermione Granger!!

5 Books You Want to See as TV Shows

Hey guys!! (my WordPress is working again – yay! I know I promised I’d still be writing all my posts while I was away but, well, school had other ideas).

Anyways, back to T5W (which is *gasp* actually being posted on Wednesday!!)

Honestly, this is hard. I don’t really want many books turned into TV shows, cause we all know how adaptations can go. *cough* Percy Jackson *cough*
House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
I’ve actually only read the first three books in this exceedingly long series, but I’m hoping to get to more of them in the future. I actually quite enjoyed this series, but I wouldn’t be too concerned if a director decided to change a few things.

Nightshade trilogy by Andrea Cremer
Honestly, I’m not sure why this is on the list. I really like these books. And if a director changed anything, I would rip their hearts out. (Not really, but I’d be thoroughly annoyed).

Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld
I really like this series, and I really want an adaptation of it, whether it be movie or TV show. (I still want to stab a few pages in Specials though).

Slated series by Teri Terry
I love this series. And I can’t be bothered rereading it. Someone make it a TV show, and I’ll just watch that instead.

The Cinderella Moment by Jennifer Kloester
This is like a chick novel. (get it? chick flick? Sorry, that was really bad. Anyways, moving on…) everyone needs a nice contemporary novel-turned-movie at some point in their life.

So there you have it. None of my favourites are on this list because I couldn’t stand for someone to turn it into a TV show and screw it up. That would end badly for them. XD

What novels do you want turned into TV shows? Are some of your favourites in that list, or are you like me, too scared of someone incorrectly portraying them? Let me know in the comments!

A Note From Skye

Hey guys, a little note from my other blog so you guys know that I won’t be on for a while.

Hey everyone!

Chocoholic here  😉

So I know I haven’t posted in ages… As I’ve mentioned before I have a separate account with my main blog, so I don’t use this account much. Also, there hasn’t been much reason to post on here since Skye/Bookdragon made her new blog Avidfangirlforlife.

However, I know Skye irl, and she has a message for you guys:

Hey guys! My WordPress isn’t working at the moment, so it may be quite some time before I figure out what’s going on with it and be able to post on it. (cries)

I’ll still be writing my weekly posts, and when my WordPress starts working again, prepare to be spammed majorly. 😉

Thanks guys!!
